As if we need more reassurance about it all, but apparently it seems as though teenagers and young adults who frequently text message are found to be more focus on wealth and image, thus, embodying all of the qualities of someone being shallow.

Well, that’s according to a new study conducted by WebMD after they surveyed more than 2,200 college psychology class students regarding their texting frequency. Rather than focusing on spiritual or moral goals, its looks like teens and young adults that text extensively, like those that dish out more than 300 messages per day, are more likely to exhibit the qualities of being shallow.

University of Winnipeg associate professor of psychology, Paul Trapnell, said, “Heavy texters do seem to be a little more materialistic and less concerned about inward growth.” That’s hardly a surprise to some people out there, as they argue that connected media actually makes them more disconnected than anything else.

Heck, just take a quick look at the hit teen movie “Clueless” from the mid-90s that starred none other than Alicia Silverstone as Miss Superficial herself. Even back then, it seems that the cell phone affected young adults on the verge of full blown adulthood.

Well, if you happen to know someone that fits this category, maybe it’s time you sit down and given them that good old talk? And you never know, you might be able to change them and bring them back to their good-natured ways of yesterday

Seems scary, as in my own little part of the world I don’t know anyone who owns a Apple Compter. But, I do know lots and lots of people who own the IPads, you just eem them everywhere now. I think its time they seperate tablets from the PC section to get real numbers.

Apple pulled ahead of HP in the fourth quarter to become the largest player in the client PC market, a new report suggested Monday. The Cupertino-based company shipped more than 15 million iPads and 5 million Mac computers last quarter, and those figures represented 17% of all PCs shipped around the world during the fourth quarter. The report, which comes from market research firm Canalys, said PC shipments grew 16% annually to reach 120 million during the quarter, and the firm’s categorization of “PC” includes desktops, notebooks, netbooks and tablets in its figures. Tablets drove PC growth, however, and Canalys said the market would have declined by 0.4% without taking tablets into consideration. Read on for more.

Overall, Acer, Dell and HP lost market share while Apple and Lenovo increased their respective shares. “Currently, HP is pursuing a Windows strategy for its pad portfolio, producing enterprise-focused products, such as the recently launched Slate 2, until the launch of Windows 8,” said Canalys analyst Tim Coulling. “However, questions remain over Microsoft’s entry into the consumer pad space. While early demonstrations of the Window 8 operating system seem promising, Microsoft must focus its efforts on creating an intuitive user experience that is far less resource intensive.”

Another Canalys analyst, Michael Kauh, said that he expects to see “limited adoption” of new thinner and lighter Intel-powered ultrabooks during the first half of this year but that adoption should increase in the second half as prices fall. ”In the short term though, vendors will experience more pressure in the netbook and notebook segments, especially with Apple’s annual iPad refresh approaching.”

I was pondering this a while back, if paypal had more outlets that accepted them and not via a visa or mastercard I would use them probably for my entire banking needs. They have all the requirements I would need for a bank.

Office Depot, the second-largest retailer of office supplies in the U.S., is testing PayPal’s new point-of-sale system in a limited number of locations according to Reuters. “It’s at this point in a small number of stores … because there are still some rough spots in that experience,” said Kevin Peters, president of Office Depot’s North American unit. “There are some limitations on who can use it, service carriers that support that.” PayPal’s new payment method, known as the wallet in the cloud, lets shoppers who have PayPal accounts pay by typing their mobile numbers and PINs at checkout counters. Customers will also be able to pay by swiping a PayPal card and entering a PIN. PayPal started testing in-store payments at 51 Home Depot locations with plans to offer the service at 20 major retailers by the end of the year, however no additional participants have been named. Peters said the company is eager to experiment with anything that helps with faster checkouts, although nothing will be widely available without further testing. “At this point, we are walking very, very slowly. The last thing we want to do is to roll out technology that doesn’t appreciably change the customer experience,” he said.

Looks to be good news for making that already super slim Smart Phone even smaller!

Sony today announced a new back-illuminated CMOS image sensor for smartphones, tablets, and other devices. Sony says that this sensor was made by laying the “pixel section containing formations of back-illuminated structure pixels onto chips containing the circuit section for signal processing.” According to Sony, the chief benefit of this design is to reduce the size of the image sensor to be installed in end-user devices. Other benefits include the ability to handle higher-quality images, faster processing speeds, and lower power requirements. The sensor will begin sampling in March, and Sony says that devices using it will offer RGBW Coding for low noise and good low-light performance, as well as Sony’s new HDR Movie processing for better color in bright light.

If you use Internet Explorer, your IQ might be below average–at least, according to one study.

AptiQuant, a “psychometric consulting” firm that provides hiring exams for businesses, gave online IQ tests to more than 100,000 people. Visitors arrived either through organic searches or through advertisements on other sites, and Aptiquant made a note of which browser each test taker was using.

On average, Internet Explorer users fared the worst, with IE6 users at the bottom of the pile and IE8 users performing slightly better. Firefox, Chrome and Safari fell in the middle with little difference between them. IE with Chrome Frame and Camino landed on top, along with Opera, whose users scored the highest (on average).

“The study showed a substantial relationship between an individual’s cognitive ability and their choice of web browser,” AptiQuant concluded. “From the test results, it is a clear indication that individuals on the lower side of the IQ scale tend to resist a change/upgrade of their browsers.”

Now, you might argue that Internet Explorer’s standing as the most popular Web browser means more IE users took the test, pushing their scores toward the mean. But AptiQuant also provided data from a similar 2006 study showing that Internet Explorer users performed well — back when IE had a bigger share of the market — so that theory may not hold up. It’s also possible, as Business Insider’s Matt Rosoff points out, that computer geeks with high IQs are more likely to use other browsers, but again the 2006 study doesn’t bear that theory out.

Whatever the reason for these results, I wouldn’t take them too seriously. They are, after all, comprised only of people who feel compelled to take IQ tests. But if you ever want to argue that Internet Explorer 6 users are too stupid to upgrade, at least now you’ve got some empirical evidence.

I figured i would get into this line of business once I do ill be golden! Maybe :0 hah!

Interested in dosing up your video game knowledge with a shot of macroeconomic data? Of course you are. The US Entertainment Software Association has delivered its 2010 health report for entertaining software and things are looking rosy. While the US economy was enjoying a steady 2.8 percent annual growth between 2005 and 2008, video game revenues were expanding by 16.7 percent a year. Factoring in the economically arid 2009 chops total US economic growth in half down to 1.4 percent, but gaming again shows its resiliency by taking a smaller dip down to 10.6 percent. That’ll be welcome news to the more than 120,000 people whose employment depends on this burgeoning industry, as will the fact that the average annual compensation in the sector is just under $90,000. Good work, if you can get it.

Wow looks like the Apple issues keep coming and yet people keep buying in mass. I can’t wait till the HTC EVO 4G is available again, thats what I am currently getting.

The company issued the statement on its official electronics blog, stating that the conclusion was reached after testing three of Apple’s iPhone 4 handsets purchased from three separate retailers in the New York area inside a controlled environment of a radio frequency isolation chamber.

“In this room, which is impervious to outside radio signals, our test engineers connected the phones to our base-station emulator, a device that simulates carrier cell towers,” the nonprofit organization wrote. “We also tested several other AT&T phones the same way, including the iPhone 3GS and the Palm Pre. None of those phones had the signal-loss problems of the iPhone 4.”

It continued: “Our findings call into question the recent claim by Apple that the iPhone 4′s signal-strength issues were largely an optical illusion caused by faulty software that ‘mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength.’ The tests also indicate that AT&T’s network might not be the primary suspect in the iPhone 4′s much-reported signal woes.”

The organization provided an “affordable” solution for users afflicted with signal woes, in covering the antenna gap found on the bottom left of the device with a piece of duct tape or a non-conductive material. “It may not be pretty,” they wrote, “but it works.”

The latest update from Consumer Reports is a 180-degree change from what it advised users earlier this month. In that report, the company noted that there was “no reason” to not buy an iPhone 4. The company said, at the time, that they were unable to recreate the signal loss issue.
